City of Franklin:
Franklin is located twenty miles south of Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded in 1822 and named in honor of founding father Benjamin Franklin, the city has a population of roughly 22,000 and growing. It is best known for its unique blend of history and growth. People come from miles around to frequent Franklin’s storefronts, antique stores, or home-cooking and gourmet eateries that serve up hospitality in a style all their own. It is also the home of Franklin College, a liberals arts school founded in 1834 and the first college in Indiana to admit women in 1842.
Architecture and housing in Franklin, Indiana feature a wide variety - Victorian mansions line downtown streets while other neighborhoods boast new construction. The surprising thing about Franklin is the mix – of old and new – of homes and businesses – that make home sweet here. The city and not-for-profit groups continue to add facilities and services to enhance the lives of citizens, down to adding minute details such as walking trails and parks.
Franklin is also a city of progress. The mix of rural and college town supports a bustling and varied night life. The city’s pro-business attitude has attracted companies from all over the world. Franklin Community School Corporation recently unveiled a state-of-the-art high school. The area also supports several intermediate and elementary schools, and is the location of Central Nine Vocational School, which was opened in 1972 with the cooperation of nine participating school districts to help prepare the area youth for local job markets.
