City of Mooresville:
Samuel Moore founded Mooresville in 1824. He was a Quaker who came from N. Carolina. Samuel recognized the location, the area lying between the west and east forks of White Lick Creek, as a fertile area for crops and for the water power it provided. The state flag of Indiana was designed in 1917 by Paul Hadley, a water colorist and longtime resident.
Boasting a population of nearly 10,000, the town of Mooresville has many advantages to those wanting to experience small town America with conveniences close at hand. The town is only ten miles away from downtown Indianapolis via State Road 67 and Interstate I-465. Other thoroughfares connect the city to Martinsville, Bargersville, Trafalgar, Greenwood, Whiteland and Franklin. Scenic Morgan Monroe State Forest and the opportunity to enjoy nature, hiking and trails, is only minutes away.
Downtown Mooresville features a wide range of eclectic shops, eateries, antique stores and businesses. Reputed for their homemade pies, another popular downtown attraction is Gray Brother’s Cafeteria. Nearby medical facilities include St. Francis Hospital and Morgan Hospital & Medical Center. The Mooresville school system shares a rich history, beginning with the Friends Academy built in 1861. One of the 1st High Schools in Indiana, the Academy Building was a called a boarding school even though the students actually rented rooms from Mooresville residents. Today the town supports five public elementary schools, a middle school, and high school.
Well known for its affordable housing, Mooresville Indiana offers a wide variety from stately older homes and smaller family dwellings to custom homes and farmhouses with acreage.
