South Indianapolis:
Indianapolis South encompasses Franklin, Perry and Decatur Townships. Recent years have brought extensive development and opportunities in business, trade and residential real estate.
The city of Beech Grove adjoins three townships – Franklin, Perry and Center townships. Its singular school system and small town feel attract many parents to the area.
Franklin Township in southeastern Marion County attracts those who prefer a little bit of country in the city. Due in part to its history as a locale of family farms, residents continue to limit growth of businesses to provide the feeling of a pristine, rural community. Recent expansion of St Francis Hospital on Emerson Avenue borders Franklin and Perry Townships and has fostered an explosion of medical facilities and jobs to the area.
Perry Township is located in south central Marion County. The township is known for large lots and tree-lined streets; easy access to interstates 65 and 465, shopping, medical facilities and recreation. The school corporation, serving over 12,000 students, is considered one of Indiana’s best.
Decatur Township is found in the south west corner of Marion County. The new Indianapolis International Airport was unveiled here in 2008, providing hundreds of new jobs in the area. It is also the home of the state’s largest industrial complex, the Ameriplex. Originally settled by Quakers from South Carolina along the White River, Decatur Township was originally known as a rural farming region. Area businessmen and developers have worked hard to keep the small city feeling while offering more opportunities to its residents.
